Elephant Tears

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Shiva cut off the head,
Not realizing it was his son
Replaced it with an elephant’s
Infinite Wisdom

They pray to Ganesha
Hoping he will bless
To ensure their ventures
End in success

I searched for an elephant
as white as the snow,
when told it’s a myth,
it came as a blow.

The blind men groped parts,
their opinions strong,
each partially right
yet completely wrong

The elephant in traffic
An autonomous car
Minding his master
Until pushed too far

Elephant tears
Not when they cry
Elephants cry
When their tears run dry

I touched this person,
much bigger than me,
painted her face,
for a future memory.

Working the elephant,
How useful it can be,
Missing the truth,
They’re meant to be free.

Gandhi says
All life we must respect
When the elephant judges
Will we pass the test?
