mindful of the hidden brook that gurgles under a wooden landing, \r\n thick ferns and bushes, \r\nmindful of slippery footing in the muddy puddle of hiking boot depressions, \r\nmindful of pricking thorny raspberry bushes\r\n as I try to walk off trail to skirt the puddles, \r\nmindful of the rivulet of water flowing down the trail\r\n looking for its way to its ocean home, \r\nmindful of the soreness in thigh and calf muscles due to elevation gain\r\n and after two previous days of hiking,\r\nmindful of the chill from uphill sweat\r\n on a downhill north facing slope under the red woods, \"dsc_0164_up\"\r\nmindful of the mushroom bloom\r\n that pushes up through the ground under pine trees,\r\nmindful of the silence broken by a beach-scraping prop plane, \r\nmindful of the two crows preening one another on a rock\r\n and the raptor that lands on the browned grass of the field, \r\nmindful of the sweeping view of the rocky and rugged coastline, \r\nmindful of a wave pounding on black volcanic rocks\r\n jetting up into the air like the high collar of a white cape, \r\n\"dsc_0167_iris\"\r\nmindful of the iridescent blues of an iris and the clear blue sky,\r\nmindful of a sip of water and the bite of a crumbly snack\r\nmindful of the minute I sit and relax\r\n\r\n  \"dsc_0140_thick\"<\/pre>\n
